Extinction of species and conservation of biodiversity
There are 100 million different species known on earth but because of big ecological issues, between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming extinct each year. What are those issues? How to help conservation of biodiversity? And how to stop this rate of extinction from going that fast?
According to dictionary.com, biodiversity is the diversity among and within plant and animal species in an environment. It is why extinction of species is closely related to the conservation of biodiversity, because of extinction, earth’s biodiversity is decreasing each year a little more. Conservation of biodiversity is very important to all of species on this planet, including us. Take for example the rain forest, according too, Saving the Rain Forest (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ personnel/krubal/rainforest/Edit560s6/www/preserve.html) the Rainforest is disappearing at a rate of 6000 acres per hours, or the size of 4000 football fields. All these animals are being killed or chassed away from their habitat, all of those trees are being destroyed and cut in pieces to make paper or magazines, but if we continue like that, our little kids won’t be able to breath because they are the lungs of the planet. But they are many other causes of extinction as Global Warming, Water pollution, Mining…ext. One of the most famous specie that is becoming extinct  are polar bears, because of global warming the ice caps are melting and they are dying .  Many dolphin are diying thinking that plastic bags in the sea are jellyfishes, and soil, the source of thousands of plants is being destroyed because of mining.  After all of those big catastrophes, when there will be only be few animals of this specie, there will normally be laws to protect those animals from hunters, sadly most of the times there will be people not willing to listen to those rules, those people who are hunting illegally are called poachers. Of course they are some big accidents that couldn’t be controlled and that kill thousands of living things as plant and animals. Those technical accidents as oil spills, nuclear power plant disasters… ext can sometimes be caused or made worst by natural disasters as tsunamis, earth cracks, hurricanes. The problem with those is that they take a very long time to be healed. Take as an example Chernobyl, the recent Japanese tsunami ,the famous Exxon Valdez oil spill and the golf coast oil spill.
Even if going protesting in the streets or in the rain forest is not an option, they are always some ways to help in the everyday life. It is always possible to recycle , pick up trash and throw it in a trashcan, save light by switching it off when it is not needed, save water by taking showers and not baths and not wasting it in any way.  To try to stop polluting air, always try walking, using bikes, skateboards and even public transport instead of private cars. And most importantly, if seen, always report a poacher or an illegal animal trader to the police. All of those everyday small action could make a real difference.

RABBIT DATA

Today in science we made an experiment on population growth, in this case rabbit population groth, the rabbits were infact litlesquares of paper. Those are the vharts that we got throghout  the years:

Hello, today K am going to talk about Brain Controll Technology, While researching a litle, I saw a video of an experiment made on a poor monkey. Yes it's true I don't like when experiments are made on animals. This pour monkey was stuck in a box having only his head out of the box. Imagine how many animals are stuck in boxes like this one and how many of them die suffering in those labatories!!!! They create those machins for disabled people why dont they test it on them !?  I have one question to ask you.....     How cool would it be to have all handicap be able to move again? The person that cant move their arm, hand or leg be able to move them again!! Death or blind people be able to here or see. Wouldn't it be great? I would personally think it would be great and the best is that probably in few years, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE!!!!!!! Scientist are now training on monkeys grrrrrrrrr (read the blog above) but it's working pretty well!!! We can see some monkeys concentraiting and walking on brain controlled metall legs!!! How it works is that the brain muscles send some signals to the machins detector and make it understand what it has to do. But dont worry you dont have to be disabled to be able to use this incredible new technology, they are already working on mind controlled robots!!!  Now their are bad things about this also like; it will probably cost a lot of money and not every body will be able to buy it, also it's possible that they will have some accidents, I hope it will be waterplouf!!!!

A short news just for Thanks Giving!!!!!

A dinausor fossil was found in China, But in this dinausaur fossil we found some fossilised bird feathers!!! Some reasearch were made and we discover that Dinausors Loved Thanksgiving!!! No seriously, they ate bird!!! They spent time every day looking for a snack in the trees.

Telepathy

Telepathy, Is it a myth or is it reality? Many people question themselves on that subject. For a long period of time it was in myths, tales with people having superpowers, but now, we figured out that it is not that impossible. We are already working on machines as robots, fake arms and fake legs controlled by our brain. We also know that we use onLy a small percent of our brain's capacity, so why wouldn't it be possible? Some people already say that they are capable of doing telepathy, with humans and animals!!!!! Are they liyers or are they saying the truth, who knows? So I wanted to check if telepathy is true, I began reading a really interesting book on animal communication, the authors tells us in many steps how to learn to communicate with animals. I decided to try it a litle bit with my cat by telling her, without talking to come to me, surprisingly, the first time after few seconds she came, the second time she hesitated for about ten minutes, and then.........SHE CAME!!!!!!!! So Do you believe in it??? Personaly, I Do!!!'!!!!!!!!!

HUNTING

Are you a person that loves meat and fur coats or a person that hates the idea of hunting and killing animals?
I was a person that was really against killing animals, but I was also a person that loved good meat and nice soft fur coats. Most people of my age took one side or the other but I learned that the secret is.... BALANCE!!!! It's true that they are some people that torture animals and people that torture humans, those crazy people will always exist, but they are some laws against that and hopefully most of them will get caught one day or the other. The idea of hunting and taking a life away is horrible but it's the circle of life, wewere born to be carnivors and eat animals, if we could kill animals without torturing them, bringing them to extinction, and be able to feed every body on earth, it will e great!!!!!! It is true that nice, soft and warm fur coats a really great but if we could use the fur from animals already used for their meat and not kill them only for their fur and frow whats left it will be the perfect balance! Now loveyour pets, enjoy life and help people around you make the right choises.

Astronomie

book,
A Short History of Nearly Everything,
Bill bryson

Today I'm going to tell you a litle story... Once upon a time, in 1965, there were some young adults ,Arno Penzias et Robert Wilson des Bell were working on a huge antena for their phone labratory, their huge antena was suppose to make the transition to some satelites but some crackling kept on bothering them in their work. They discovered that it was a airwave, but they couldn't figure out the source of this airwave because of other noises. Those noises were mostly made of electrical particles in the antena. They were able to eliminate all of the noises exept one, they couldn't figure out it's source, they tried to change the position of their antena but it didn't go away, the only thing they knew is that it came from out of space. Fora while the two men gave up on solving this problem but few years later, while they were talking with their friend scientist, Robert Dicke, they finally discovered what was this wierd airwave, it was the fossil radiation from the bigbang!!!!
So this is the story of the discovery of the fossil radiation of the Bigbang. Bu5 you might ask; Is there anyway to see  this radiation? And the answer is ...  Yes of course!!!! Have you ever been bothered by a TV or a radio that keep on crackling? If the answer is Yes well you have already seen the fossil radiation of the Bigbang!!!
I LOVE YOU ALL

Dirt (the movie)

You might ask: Are you really talking about this dirty, stinky stuff on the ground? Yes I am, this dirty "stuff" is infact very usefull to us and our planet, without it we would all be dead. Dirt is also very usefull to our earth because it clarifies natur and water! By the way I also learned that the water we drink is our pee, animal pee, and dinosaur pee!!!! Hahaha, grows!!!! It is reconized as THE SOURCE of fertility.Dirt also called soil is obviously abiotic, meaning that it's not alive. Even if it's abiotic, dirt is composed of the 5 very same biotic elements as us!!!Another very important thing for all of us is that healthy dirt makes healthy wine and healthy coco wish later makes good wine and good chocolate.

Sadly people want more than our beautifull nature wants to give us and go dig out huge holls into the ground by using explosives. Those explosives destroy litle by litle our beautiful nature by destroying our beautiful soil. Farmers all around the world commit suicide because they lost their land and dont have any jobs, more exacly, in India 20 000 persons a year commit suicide by drinking the pesticides they can nolonger afford.

Wase to help?
If you want to help our planet, recycle by making compost.  You can also by bio products and try to help us dtop thid over mining.

And Remember each piece of soil has a different taste!!!

LOVE YA ALL

TIGER'S DEATH INVESTIGATION

Hi every one here I am again and today I'm going to talk about a group of great russan and american scientists that are investigating the cause of the death of wild tigers. This team will be triing to save the worlds largest cat.

Last year a tigress "Galia" that was studied by this same group walked into the village of Terney. Galia looked strange to the scientists and was searching for dogs as an easy meal. Sadly this beautifull tiger  was shot by local police after several capture attempts failed. In November 2003, the same thing happend with a healthy looking  tigress in the village of Pokrovka in Khabarovski Krai only this timethe tiger stayed alive There were many other examples of tigers entering villages or roadway throughout those few years.Distemper sickness is found in many speices as: domestic dogs, lynx and bobcats in Canada, Baikal seals , lions, raccoons and the black footed ferret. And they think that it is that. The good news is that canine distemper can be vaccinated , so if they succed to collect enough money they could save those magnificent cats. Latest reports suggest that fewer than 3,500 tigers remain in the wild; 1,000 are breeding females.
What can you do?
Donnate money and..... READ MY NEXT BLOG POST!!!!

Here is another dicovery!!!!

You wont believe me.... I have another discovery to share!!!!! Some archeologist found 2 new fossils of early humans in Africa. A 3 000 000 years old female adult and and a 3 000 000 years old male child. Those fossils made us discover new things about Australopithecus sediba ( what they were) : They have long thumbs, they had a brain that looked very much like ours but one quarter smaller, we also discovered that they were able to climb trees and walk on 2 foot, finally they say that their is a possibility that they were already making and using tools!!! One of the most incredible things about this discovery is that they found a sample of fossilized skin, this sample is now in laboratory to be checked. But all of those new ideas and discoveries make people disagree and argue!!! Like Harvard, George Washington University and many others. What do YOU think?

The super cats!!!!

I have an awesome news to shear with you, Your favourite pet will probably live much longer!!!!!!!!!! How? Some incredible scientists discovered a way to creat kittens that are resistant to feline AIDS, cool right!? Those cute kittens are born with antiviral protein that we hope will combat feline viruses as HIV. Another gene inside of them makes hem glow in fluoricent light wich proves us that the process is working. The scientist collected eggs from ovaries and injected them with viruses containing monkey genes of the antiviral protein and the green fluorescent protein. . After fertilizing the eggs, the scientists put the egs into the feline mothers. And in the end 3 really cute and fluorecent kittens are born!
Scientists aren't sure yet if this is going to work, they need more time and more kittens to be sure of that but if it works cats will be the first breed to be imuned to this virus.Surprisingly those cats are not the first to glow, scientist have already used this gene for cloning.
What is also great about this discover is that it will help us find a way to do the same thing with humans. We all know that HIV has affected millions of people and this discovery could help us stop that!
Now we only have 2 things to do, love your pets and if you dont have a pet love your family and friend, and most importantly WAIT!!!!!!

My scientifique summer

One thing that really includes a lot of science and that I did this summer, was taking katamaran classes. There are many questions and subjects about katamarans as: Why are there currents and why those it affect katamarans velocity? Why do Katamarans float? Why are there ties and why are they bigger in some places? Why does the wind affect katamarans?

If I had to talk about all of those subjects It would take a looooooot...... Of pages, so I will only consontrate on the question "Why do katamarans float" And by looking online and searching a litle (in fact I already new it) I found out that for an object to float it's dansity has to be smaller than the wanter it is on. And as you know the hulls that are making it float areonly fill out with air so the density is very low.

From feet to fathom

History:  English units are the historical units of measurement in medieval England which evolved as a combination of the Anglo-Saxon and Roman systems of units. They were redefined in England in 1824 by a Weights and Measures Act, which retained many but not all of the unit names with slightly different values, and again in the 1970s by the International System of Units as a subset of the metric system.  (From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_units)
Guiding Question:  What is the importance of having an International measuring system?  How accurate are old measurements using body parts?
Hypothesis:  (What do you think?)
The old measurement systems are not accurate at all because they depend on are physic and as you know we all have different physics , some are tall, some have big feet, some are small , some have small feet. So for somebody the span could be 20cm than for somebody else it could be of 7cm. It’s why it’s important to have an international measuring system.
Materials:
·         Partner
·         Objects in the classroom (whiteboard, desk, hallway, SPACE book, Peep, Crayon box)
·         List of ways to measure:
Pace:  legs outstretched =1 yard approximately or 1 meter
Egyptian cubit= elbow to tip of the middle finger= 18 inches or 45 cm
Fathom = middle finger to middle finger across the body = 6 feet, 180 cm, 1.8m
Palm = across the palm of the hand = 3 inches or 8 cm
Hand including thumb = 4 inches or 10 cm
Span = from tip of thumb to tip of little finger= 3 palms or 9 inches or 24 cm
English yard = from fingertip of arm to nose = 36 inches or about 1 meter
Foot = 12 “or 30 cm approximately
Fingernail = tip of pinky =1/2 inch = 1 cm.
·         Meter stick or measuring tape
·         Calculator
Procedure:
1.       Make a data table in your notebook with 7 columns and 7 rows.  (See below).
2.       Choose one of the six objects or distances you will measure.
3.       Determine what form of measurement you will make with the first object. (For example:  Length of the 6th grade hallway with paces, book with palm or hand, fingernail for crayon box, etc…)
4.       Measure it with the determined form of measurement 3 times, and then find the average.
5.       Measure it with the meter stick/or measuring tape and find the actual measurement.  (IMPORTANT!!!!!  BE SURE THAT THE UNITS OF MEASUREMENT STAY THE SAME, either inches or centimeters or yards or feet or meters and the average needs to be in the same units)
6.       Repeat the same for each of the five objects that are left and measure it with a different type of measurement, 3 times, find the average and again the actual measurement.
7.       Compare class data results.  Find the average of these results.
Record & Analyze

Graph:  You may choose to make a graph to make the data easier to analyze.  Highlight the Object column and Average and Actual Measurement columns and Insert bar graph.  You may decide to translate all the units into either inches or centimeters for the averages and actual measurements which may make it easier to analyze as well, but BE AWARE that this may ruin your results.
Data Analysis:
What patterns or relationships do you see between the forms of measurement, the averages you and your partner got and the actual measurement for each object?
Sometimes we were close to the right answer but only ONE time we had one of our partner correct one the actual size of the object. What was pretty cool was that my other partner and I had few times the same answer. Sadly our average showed that we couldn’t rely one ancient measuring systems because not even one time our average was even close to the actual size of the object.
Conclusion:  How effective were the old English forms of measurement compared to using the meter stick or measuring tape?  What is the importance of having an International measuring system?  Answer the guiding question here. Was your hypothesis correct in the beginning?  If no, what do you think now?  Which objects were the easiest or most accurate to measure?  Which form of measurement did you prefer the most?  State why for both questions.  Give examples to help you explain.

The old English forms are not accurate and take more time to measure compared to meters or feet because each person in this world have different physics and size. It’s why it is important to have an international  measuring system,  I’m going to give you an example: if we used the Old English measurement one architect with very long legs might say to the architect with who his working that it’s 11 pace (22m) , but when the other architect who has small legs tries it it is only 5m long. I really liked using the old English measurements because I found it very creative but sadly it is not reliable.

Further inquiry: What improvements would you make next time? What errors did you and your partner make? Do you have any further questions about measurement?  If so, what were they?
First next time I hope I’ll be here when we begin this experiment, yes we made errors, we thought that on the graph we had to write the ancient measurement and not translate the ancient measurement into centimeters. I think that an experiment that we could do would be to create our own measurement and see how it works. It could be fun and at the end we could try to make a group work using those measurements to see how it works.

How does the weight afectt the way a ball roll?

Hi everyone! I'm back to a new episode of.... Science for 6th grade!!! And today our guiding question is.... How does the weight affect the way a ball roll? What we did in the experiment was that we took balls of different size and weight, after we shows one and putt it on the edge of a table and by blowing in a straw we tried to make the ball move. Then we wrote in our notebook if the ball was easy to move, or hard, if the ball moved  fast, or slow and finally how the ball moved, straight, turned to the left, turned to the right. So here is what I got:

LITTLE PEBBLE
  •  It was easy to move
  • It rolled pretty fast
  • But it rolled in a diagonal line.
Big pebble
  • pretty hard to move
  • moved slowly
  • went straight then turned
Tennis ball
  • Very hard to move
  • Very slow
  • But moved straight
golf ball
  • very hard to move
  • very slow
  • moved a litle diagonaly
Can you see that the heavier the material is the slower it goes the harder it is to move but the straighter it goes? This is what I discovered in science today.
See you!!!

New lecon "The Forces of motion".

I never really studied The Forces Of Motion but one thing that I know is why there is tides. After I really know nothing about it or maybe I do but I can't remember.

My mum talled me about many things that I don't know as: magnetic strength, gravity, - and+ gravity forces, centrifugal strength ...It's true that when telling me about those strength she explained it a little but just a little so I would Looooooooooove to know more about it.

Who owns the oceans minerals second part

Limestone, gypsum, salt, diamonds, gold are minerals that we can find in the sea.
How valuable is it?
Gold is hard to mine, it’s malleable, it’s hard to find, it doesn’t tarnish or rust.
Diamonds are expensive to mine because we need a special material cause they are the hardest mineral on earth.
Salt is very common , it’s found in the world’s oceans.
Limestone is very useful cause we use it for building houses,
Gypsum is common but useful for gypsum board, cement, cast, paint and statues.
Who owns the oceans minerals
Helene: I think that what should happen, is that each country that  mines in an other country should give a percentage of the money they won to this other country so that this other country can little by little win enought money to begin their own business and keep up their economy
Hanna: I think the ocean should not be mined because how are we going to return the oceans to their natural state therefore people should stick to the coast line. Oil is hazardous to the environment and it lingers in the water for decades so it is a large problem. You see dead mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians in nearby ponds
Alex: I think that NO ONE owns the word oceans minerals apart from the fish and other things that live inside
 Conflict
We had a conflict first Helene was saying (I think that what should happen, is that each country that  mines in an other country should give a percentage of the money they won to this other country so that this other country can little by little win enough money to begin their own business and keep up their economy)
But Hannah was saying( the ocean should not be mined other than if it must on the continental shelvles where we are already mining so we don’t go as deep into a large
I personaly thought that helen’s idea was the best of all. It would make my dad proud if I helped do that
 Our proposal
So we have a proposal is that we use are water and minerals more efficiently and that we help poor countries to develop by making donations or giving them jobs do that we don’t have to use the ocean at all and that we don’t hurt the ecosystem.
Conclusion
This was our group debate in science today, and what is surprising is that each group got quite the same proposal, it probably proves that we should really apply it.
