Even dough the Russians were the first ones to go to space,The Americans were the first one on the moon (1969-1972, Apollo 11). The crew was composed of Collins, Aldrin and Armstrong even if Neil Amstrong became even more famous by being the first man to walk on the Moon. But Apollo 11 wasn't the only ship to go to the moon in total 9 ships made it to the moon but only 7 land. 6 Apollo missions and 12 , they all spent 228 hours in total.
It took a lot to astronomers to be able to go on the moon and come back first they had to have a very intencive training but once on the moon they had to be carfull of the lack of oxygen and/or any bad weather.
But all of this wouldn't have happened without some special event in our world's History. First, Sputnik 1 being launched into the orbit by the Russians in 1958 (first satellite in space). Then in 1958 US created NASA. In 1961 Uri Gagarin went into orbiting space, and then the competition between Russia and US began (first Russia). Later on, Alan Shepherd went in 1961 (first American in space).
A funny fact: At the beiginning Astronomers believed that the moon was made of green cheese!!!
In conclusion we should all be thankfull to the Astronauts who wanted to risk their lives to go on the moon.
